pjur AQUA is a plain water based lubricant from pjur, in a 100 ml (3.4 oz) bottle. It's made without oil, perfume or added flavour, so it doesn't smell or taste of much, and it feels silky rather than sticky. It works with condoms and with every kind of toy, which makes it an easy everyday bottle to keep by the bed for solo play, sex with a partner, or as the lube you reach for when you don't want to think about compatibility.

How this water based lubricant feels

pjur describes AQUA as having a velvety glide that isn't sticky, and says the water in it is absorbed by the skin rather than leaving a tacky film behind. In practice it's a smooth, medium gel that spreads easily and stays slick for a reasonable time. Like any water-based formula, it will eventually soak in or dry. When that happens, add a little more or wet it with a few drops of water rather than wiping it off and starting again.

What's in it

pjur's current ingredient list reads: water, glycerin, ethoxydiglycol, phenoxyethanol, hydroxypropyl guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, hydroxyethylcellulose and citric acid. Formulas are sometimes updated, so if you're checking for a particular ingredient, go by the label on your bottle. pjur says skin compatibility has been dermatologically tested and that biological compatibility was checked by external labs. It isn't a contraceptive and contains no spermicide.

Condoms and toys

pjur lists AQUA as compatible with latex and polyisoprene condoms; apply it to the outside once the condom is on. With no silicone in it, this water based personal lubricant is safe with silicone toys, as well as glass, metal and hard plastic. It's a sensible default if you own toys in several materials and want one bottle for all of them.

Using it

Unscrew the cap, squeeze out a small amount and apply it wherever you want extra glide, then reapply as often as you like. Warm it between your fingers first if cold lube makes you jump. It is very slippery on hard surfaces, so wipe up spills straight away and take care in the bath or shower. Keep it away from your eyes, and stop using it if anything becomes irritated.

Who it suits

AQUA is a no-frills bottle: no flavour, no warming or tingling, nothing added for effect. That makes it a good fit for people who simply want slip, for couples using condoms, and for anyone with toys in several materials who doesn't want to check compatibility each time. It's less suited to long anal sessions or sex in the water, where a silicone lube holds up longer.

Sizes and other pjur lubes

pjur makes AQUA in 30 ml, 100 ml, 250 ml and 500 ml sizes; this listing is the 100 ml bottle, which lasts a while without taking up much space. pjur also makes other water-based versions, such as AQUA Aloe Vera, and you'll find the brand's silicone and anal formulas in our pjur collection.

Helpful Information

Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful answers about Pjur Aqua Water Based Lubricant.

Is pjur AQUA safe with condoms?

Yes. pjur lists it as compatible with both latex and polyisoprene condoms. Put the condom on first, then apply lube to the outside. Remember that pjur AQUA itself isn't a contraceptive and contains no spermicide.

Can I use this water based lubricant with silicone toys?

Yes. There's no silicone in the formula, so it won't affect a silicone toy's surface, and it's fine on glass, metal and hard plastic too. Rinse the toy in warm, soapy water afterwards to remove any residue.

Does pjur AQUA have a smell or taste?

It's made without perfume or added flavours, so it has very little scent. It isn't designed to taste of anything, so if you want a lube for oral, a flavoured product will be more pleasant.

Does pjur AQUA contain glycerin?

Yes, glycerin is the second ingredient on pjur's current list. If you've been advised to avoid glycerin, choose a glycerin-free lube instead and check the label on any bottle before you buy.

Why does my water-based lube get sticky?

As the water evaporates, any water-based lube thickens and can start to drag. Add a few drops of water or a little more lube and it becomes slick again. Using a bit more at the start also helps on longer sessions.

Will it stain sheets or clothes?

It's water-soluble and oil-free, so it washes out of most fabrics in a normal wash. Wipe off any spills on hard floors immediately, since pjur warns that it's very slippery on surfaces.

Is pjur AQUA good for anal sex?

It works, but water-based lubes tend to need reapplying more often during anal. Many people prefer a thicker or longer-lasting formula for anal; pjur's own anal lubes are in our pjur range.
