Wicked Simply Aqua is a clean, everyday water based lubricant in a 2.3 oz bottle small enough for a nightstand drawer or a weekend bag. Wicked built the Simply line around a short ingredient list with no glycerin, propylene glycol or parabens, and this is the plain, unflavoured member of that family: slick, non-sticky and easy to wash away.

What it feels like

Simply Aqua is a liquid rather than a gel, so it spreads quickly and thinly over skin or a toy. Wicked describes it as slick and non-sticky, and calls it long-lasting for a water-based formula. Like any water-based lube it will slowly soak in and get tacky during a long session. Wicked says it reactivates with moisture, so before you reach for the bottle again, try a few drops of water or a little saliva to bring the glide back.

The ingredient list, read plainly

Wicked lists: water, propanediol (from corn), cellulose gum (from cotton seed), hydroxyethylcellulose (from tree bark), disodium EDTA, olive leaf extract, stevia leaf and stem extract, citric acid, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate. Propanediol takes the place glycerin holds in many lubes, the two celluloses give it body, and the last three keep it fresh once opened. The olive leaf extract is Wicked's signature addition across the Simply range. The formula is vegan and cruelty-free, according to the maker. Stevia appears on the list, but this version isn't sold as flavoured; Wicked makes separate flavoured Simply Aqua bottles for that.

A water based lubricant for the whole toy drawer

This is where a water based lube earns its place. Wicked lists Simply Aqua as safe with all toy materials and latex friendly, so you can use it on silicone vibrators, dildos and plugs, glass and stainless steel, and with latex condoms. It won't stain the way oils can, and it washes off sheets and skin with mild soap and warm water. For anal play many people prefer something thicker; the gel-textured Simply Aqua Jelle stays put better there.

How to use it

Start with a small amount, about the size of a coin, warmed between your fingers for a moment. Apply it where you want it, on a partner, a condom or the toy itself, then add more as you go. Putting it on the toy and on your body works better than coating just one. If it starts to drag, add a splash of water before adding more lube. After play, rinse toys with warm water and mild soap and let them air-dry.

Which bottle to buy

The 2.3 oz size is a good way to try Simply Aqua, or to keep a second bottle in a bag or the bathroom. If it becomes your regular lube, the Simply Aqua 4 oz is the same formula in a larger bottle. It's also a sensible first lube if you've never bought one before, since it works with nearly everything you're likely to own. Keep the cap closed between uses and store the bottle at room temperature, out of direct sun.

Helpful Information

Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful answers about Wicked Simply Aqua Water Based Lubricant 2.3 oz.

Can I use Wicked Simply Aqua with silicone toys?

Yes. Wicked lists Simply Aqua as safe with all toy materials, and water based lube is the standard pairing for silicone because it won't react with the toy's surface. It's equally fine on glass, stainless steel and hard plastic.

Is Simply Aqua safe with latex condoms?

Wicked describes it as latex friendly, so it can be used with latex condoms and dental dams. Apply it to the outside of the condom once it's on, not inside, so the condom stays in place.

Why does water based lube get sticky, and what can I do?

As the water evaporates or soaks in, the thickeners left behind can feel tacky. Simply Aqua reactivates with moisture, according to Wicked, so a few drops of water or saliva usually bring the glide back without adding more lube.

Is this a glycerin-free lube?

Yes. Wicked makes the whole Simply line without glycerin, propylene glycol or parabens. Propanediol, made from corn, is used instead. If you're comparing ingredient lists, the full list is in the description above.

Does Simply Aqua taste of anything?

It's sold as unflavoured, though stevia extract is in the ingredient list, so you may notice a faint sweetness. If you want a deliberate flavour, Wicked makes flavoured Simply Aqua versions as separate products.

Can I use it in the shower?

You can, but water rinses any water-based lube away quickly, so you'll reapply often. For play in the bath or shower, a silicone lubricant lasts much longer, as long as your toys aren't silicone.

How do I get it off sheets and skin?

It washes away with mild soap and warm water and isn't oily, so it doesn't leave the kind of marks massage oils do. Rinse spills on fabric with cool water before washing as usual.
